“Comparison is the death of joy.” ― Mark Twain
Often I like to set aside time to be inspired. Every couple of weeks I will do stocktake on where other photographers and artists are headed with their art and spend time thinking about where I want to take my art.
Art is never static. It moves and grows and changes and propels. It shouldn't be forced to move, it will occur naturally. But I absolutely believe that by intentionally observing, analysing and experimenting with my art, the growth and expansion is going to happen a lot faster and with a clearer vision of the purpose behind it.
Some artists don't want or don't need to have a purpose for their art. But I do. I strive to document life in a way that is genuine and emotional. My aim is to capture moments that make people smile, laugh and cry. By keeping this objective at the very core of my art, I have a greater sense of how I want to use my tools and talents to achieve it.
I leave you with a few shots from the very first wedding I ever shot solo a couple of years ago. It was interesting for me to see what areas of my work have grown and changed, as well as which areas have remained very similar.
