Album Arrival

What an exciting day it's been!

Not only did I get a haircut, but look what came in the mail today! Imi & James' wedding album. And it is so beautiful, I cannot even begin to explain how amazing it is.
As soon as I arrived home with it I pulled out the rug Nan made me last year and snapped away.

Don't forget October's wedding offer: you can have one of these gorgeous babies thrown into your wedding package absolutely free if you book your wedding before 31st October.

Stocktake

“Comparison is the death of joy.” ― Mark Twain

Often I like to set aside time to be inspired. Every couple of weeks I will do stocktake on where other photographers and artists are headed with their art and spend time thinking about where I want to take my art.

Art is never static. It moves and grows and changes and propels. It shouldn't be forced to move, it will occur naturally. But I absolutely believe that by intentionally observing, analysing and experimenting with my art, the growth and expansion is going to happen a lot faster and with a clearer vision of the purpose behind it.

Some artists don't want or don't need to have a purpose for their art. But I do. I strive to document life in a way that is genuine and emotional. My aim is to capture moments that make people smile, laugh and cry. By keeping this objective at the very core of my art, I have a greater sense of how I want to use my tools and talents to achieve it.

I leave you with a few shots from the very first wedding I ever shot solo a couple of years ago. It was interesting for me to see what areas of my work have grown and changed, as well as which areas have remained very similar.

Ok Nishi

I've just come home after 24 hours in Canberra, my favourite city in the world. I managed to sneak away from Parkes briefly to catch up with my good friend Katie, who is the featured artist in boyandgirlco's exhibiton Anew.

boyandgirlco are in the business of pallet furniture: recycling old pallets and repurposing them for home and business furniture. I met Carlo and Anita yesterday (boy and girl respectively), and it was such a pleasure seeing their work. For them, this isn't just about a business. It's about combining a passion for sustainability with a knack for creativity.

I look forward to one day owning a home and getting these guys to fit it out with their stuff!

Anew
is in New Acton, the hippest part of Canberra, at the Nishi Gallery and is running until 31st October.
